Calhoun welcomed her child on June 10, 2000, the same year her co-star Nia Long had her son. However, the identity of Calhoun's son's father was not revealed. The child's name is also unknown.

Through the years, the star of "The Players Club" has honored her son on his birthdays by marking his milestones on her Instagram account with over 160,000 followers.

In June 2022, Calhoun celebrated her son's special day, writing, "The birthday countdown begins 22 in 2022!!!! a #motherslove," alongside a photo of her and her child wearing facemasks.

The film star gave a shoutout to her son in September 2020 alongside the same picture she shared on his 22nd birthday. "National Son Day," she wrote on her social upload.

Over the years, Calhoun has given her social media followers a peek inside her life with her child. The mother-and-son duo dress up in matching clothes and attend events together.

In May 2019, Calhoun gave fans a closer look at her son by posting a selfie of them sitting in the car together. He wore a black jacket with a gray hoodie underneath and had glasses on.

The Hollywood star color-coordinated her outfit with her son and accessorized her look with hoop earrings and sunglasses. She captioned the post with a winking face emoji.

A year later, in December 2020, Calhoun posted a video on Instagram of her son playing the keyboard. However, she muted the clip and only wrote "Shush" in the caption.

Calhoun and her son even attend concerts together. In June 2018, the single mom shared photos of the duo enjoying themselves at the Grand Performances concert series. While she smiled at the camera, his head was faced down in the snaps.

Calhoun's son has a developmental disorder and is visually impaired. In August 2022, she acknowledged this with a picture from their outing, and the caption::

Bonding with her son is something Calhoun tends to do despite her demanding acting career. During a June 2023 interview with MyTime Movie Network, the star of "The Best Man Holiday," who appeared with Morris Chestnut and Taye Diggs in the films, was asked what she loves doing when she isn't working.

"Reading, writing, and hanging out with my son, listening to music," said the Emmy Award nominee. The proud parent also divulged that what she loves most about her career is it heals a broken heart. Calhoun further disclosed the best advice she has ever received: to live, laugh, and love like no one is watching.
