The Duchess of Sussex is the first American person to join the British Royal family, and she has been fascinating the public since her engagement to Prince Harry. Her wedding was beautiful, and the new royal baby is due in April. Here are some interesting details about Meghan Markle’s life before she became a duchess.
1. Catholic School Girl
The former actress attended an all-girls Catholic school. “I went to an all-girls Catholic school for like six years during the time when kids actually had handwriting class,” she said while talking about calligraphy. She also added, “Just picture me with my curly hair and a gap in my teeth and my little school uniform with Keds on.”
2. Her name is Rachel
Almost everyone knows that her full name is not Meghan Markle, but Rachel Meghan Markle. Actresses often changed it when they become famous because it sounds better.
3. Her father was the lighting and photography director on 'Married...with Children'
Meghan once revealed that her father worked on the set of ‘Married… with Children’, “Every day after school for 10 years, I was on the set of Married... with Children, which is a really funny and perverse place for a little girl in a Catholic school uniform to grow up.” Some scenes were even too mature for the young girl, and her dad would ask her to help around so she would not see them.
4. Finding her light
Thanks to her dad’s work, she always knows how to find the light. “I will always find my light. No question. Meghan Markle is known for speaking about women’s right. She actually started to do it at the age of 11 after seeing a commercial where they suggested that women only wash dishes. Meghan wrote a letter to Procter and Gamble, asking them to change the wording, and the company told her she was right.
7. She had two majors at Northwestern University
The former actress called her a “theater nerd”, but she also loves politics. "I knew I wanted to do acting, but I hated the idea of being this cliché—a girl from L.A. who decides to be an actress. I wanted more than that, and I had always loved politics, so I ended up changing my major completely and double-majoring in theater and international relations.”
8. Meghan worked in the U.S. Embassy in Argentina
During an interview with Marie Claire, the Duchess talked about her job in Argentina, which she got right after graduating. “By my junior year I had finished most of my credits, and so I applied for an internship at the U.S. Embassy, so I ended up working in the embassy in Buenos Aires for a few months. I thought for sure I would still have a career in politics.”
9. She appeared on 'Deal or No Deal'
Before her role on ‘Suits’, Meghan had several small jobs in front of the camera. “I would put that in the category of things I was doing while I was auditioning to try to make ends meet. Definitely working on 'Deal or No Deal' was a learning experience, and it helped me to understand what I would rather be doing.”

In her interview with Esquire, the Duchess said, “I've always had a propensity for getting the cursive down pretty well. Meghan Markle had to remove her personal social media and her blog called The Tig when she got engaged to Prince Harry, but the website talked about food, travel, fashion, and beauty. She told Allure more about it:
“It's named after a wine called Tignanello. I had a sip of it six years ago, and it was my first aha moment. You spend years going, 'Oh, I'll just have red or white. I don't really know what the difference is.' But then one day you take a sip of something and you're like, I get it. According to a report from E! News, people in Hollywood were requesting plastic surgeons for Meghan’s nose. Dr. Stephen T. Greenberg, MD, said, “Patients started to coming to see me about six months ago requesting Meghan Markle's nose. As things between her and Prince Harry started to heat up, attention definitely followed. Today, she is probably one of the top—if not the No. 1—request I get.”
