Suspect Arrested in Connection with Death of 11-Year-Old Alabama Girl

Amberly Barnett's body was found in the woods behind her aunt's house in Collinsville, Alabama.

Officials confirmed that a 33-year-old suspect from Alabama will be charged with capital murder. Christopher Madison is currently behind bars.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Madison will be held without bond. It is unclear whether Madison had entered a plea to the murder charge filed against him.

A spokesperson for the Sheriff's office, Nick Walden, said that they could not give further comment at the time, other than the following statement:

"The road to justice for this sweet, innocent little girl is too important to release anything to jeopardize this investigation."

He said their main focus "is justice for a sweet angel who gained their wings," and thanked the community and officials their support.

A motive for the killing has not been released as yet. Officials only know that Barnett was strangled to death and her body dumped in the woods.

Those with information pertinent to the investigation are asked to call the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office at (256) 845-3801.
