A UK prisoner who had enough of the poor quality of the prison he found himself in has made national headlines.

The inmate caught the local media's attention by sending them pictures of his daily meals, and it seems the British public are not disagreeing with his assessment of the quality of prison food.

The inmate of HMP Risley in Warrington has been sending in pictures of the meals served within the prison. From Omelettes to liver there certainly seems to be a variety of food on offer.

However, the quality of food on offer is not matched by its quality. The menu looks like an advert for a Gordan Ramsay Kitchen Nightmares episode.

The UK prison services released a statement in response to the coverage the prison food story has received defending the nutritional value of the food on offer in their prisons.

"All prisoners are offered fruit and vegetables as part of three healthy meals a day, which meet nutritional guidelines set out by the Food Standards Agency and the Department of Health."

The Ministry of Justice also replied to the media ensuring them that all meals supplied in their prisons comply with nutritional guidelines.

The inmate who described the food as worse than 'worse than dog food' has not complied with guidelines though and could find himself in hot water if the authorities have their way.

Inmates aren't permitted cellphones either. The Ministry of Justice's statement mentioned this fact:

"We are investigating these pictures, and any prisoner found using a mobile can face extra time behind bars."

This is not the first time that the state of food in UK prisons has been highlighted. The Telegraph reported on prisoners who were not happy with the healthy options available while incarcerated.

"They were often dissatisfied with the food options available and referred to it as a ‘sweet shop’ due to the lack of healthy options they could buy.” the report found.
