It might take a while before we all get to have a look at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s firstborn, especially since the new parents are taking an unusual approach to the protocol surrounding the birth of a royal baby.

Meanwhile, more and more details surrounding “Baby Sussex” and everything related to his arrival keep surfacing around the world’s media, so there’s much to catch up with before the latest member of the British Royal Family is revealed.

BABY SUSSEX’S ARRIVAL

The news about 37-year-old Meghan Markle entering into labor early in the morning of Monday, May 6, prompted hundreds of royal fans to gather outside Windsor Castle to wait for the official announcement of the birth.

The arrival of the baby, as well as his gender, were revealed by the recently created Instagram account of the proud parents later, confirming that the baby boy was born at 5:26 a.m. weighing 7 pounds and 3 ounces.

“The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives,” the brief official statement read.

Even though the child will not have the title of a Prince or an HRH, due to internal rules of the royal family, modified in 1917 by King George V, “Baby Sussex” comes seventh in the line of succession to the throne of England.

PRINCE HARRY MEETS THE MEDIA

At the time of the announcement, 34-year-old Prince Harry appeared in front of the media to address the happy news.

“Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined,” the youngest son of late Princess Diana said.

“We’re both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everybody out there. It’s been amazing, so I just wanted to share this with everybody," the high-spirited royal shared.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the statement reads.

“The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well,” it added.

THE ENTIRE UNITED KINGDOM CELEBRATES

The arrival of “Baby Sussex” comes in a complicated time for the UK, which is currently struggling with the process of leaving the European Union. This could turn the baby into a symbol of the future of a new time for the country.

In addition to the historical context, there is the issue of ethnicity, as Meghan and Harry’s baby “will be the first biracial baby in line to the British throne,” as CNN’s Jane Merrick pointed out.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May took to Twitter to congratulate the new parents on the special occasion. "Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the arrival of their baby boy. Wishing you all the best at this happy time," she wrote.

Also, the iconic BT Tower in London was lit to mark the royal birth. “Congratulations - a baby boy!” was tweeted on the landmark’s official account.

BABY SUSSEX’S PLACE WITHIN THE ROYAL FAMILY

Harry and Meghan’s newborn joins the Royal Family as the eighth great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II. He is also Prince Charles’ fourth grandchild, and cousin of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Even though the child will not have the title of a Prince or an HRH, due to internal rules of the royal family, modified in 1917 by King George V, “Baby Sussex” comes seventh in the line of succession to the throne of England.

Unlikely to ever become king, the yet-to-be-named baby will come to be known as the Earl of Dumbarton, unless his grandfather Prince Charles becomes king or the Queen changes his title in advance.

WHERE WILL THE BABY GROW UP?

While much has been said about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s plans to spend considerable time in Africa due to their duties in the Commonwealth, this is a decision unlikely to be taken until 2020.

For the time being, the Duke and Duchess and their first child will stay at Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate, the home the Queen gave the couple as a gift in recent months.

Initially, Markle will have the support of her mother Doria Ragland, but most probably they will end up hiring a nanny to take care of the baby when the parents are on official engagements.
