Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Royal Baby Name Might Be a Tribute to Princess Diana

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose a non-traditional name for their newborn son, which unusual as it may be, might have a few special meanings.

The royal couple only announced the name of their firstborn on Wednesday after he got introduced to the Queen and Prince Phillip and then to the world during a brief meeting with reporters at Windsor Castle.

Meghan gave birth to their son early on Monday and decided to name him Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

When looking at the meaning of the names individually, Archie means “true and bold” in Scotland, while the German version means “truly brave.” Harrison, on the other hand, is a nod to his father, as the English name literally translates into “son of Harry.”

A perhaps encounter between a woman and the Middleton family revealed that the name might have another special meaning as well.

In January, a woman told The Sun that she came across Kate and Prince William’s two children, Princess Charlotte, and Prince George while out playing with their grandmother Carole Middleton in tow.

While she walked her dog, Prince George came over to pet it, and when she asked him his name, she told the publication, that much to her “astonishment” he said, “I’m called Archie.”

Known for breaking protocol, Prince Harry and Meghan opted not to give Archie an official royal title, but he will gain the title of a prince as soon as his grandfather, Prince Charles becomes King.

The last name of Mountbatten-Windsor goes to any male descendant in line to the throne who hasn’t received their own royal title.

But the newborn’s name might also be a tribute to Princess Diana, as she had an ancestor named Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll.

Born in Scotland, he became a prominent figure in Scottish politics. During the Scottish Civil War in the 1600s, Archibald became a Royalist supporter and got involved in numerous Royalist uprisings during the period of the Cromwellian Protectorate.

Archibald was also said to be smart in small inventions while John Leslie, the first Duke of Rothes, noted that “neither does either his person or way of converse, recommend him” while the Scottish poet and novelist, Andrew Lang painted a much nicer picture of Archibald and referred to him as a “man of singularly affectionate character and tender heart.”

Royal fans can finally relax after months of speculation about Archie, as Prince Harry and Meghan decided to keep the details around the pregnancy private.

However, shortly after it got announced that Meghan is expecting, one royal fan correctly predicted Meghan Markle’s due date, as she gave away one important clue while still on their first royal tour in October last year.
