All the Royal Family Reactions To Harry and Meghan's Baby Birth: Who Was The Sweetest?
We thought the day would never come, but alas, it finally happened! Meghan and Harry’s baby boy was born at 5:26 in the morning on May 6, 2019, and weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces. The couple first child is Queen’s eighth great-grandchild, following Louis and Lena Tindall, who were born last year. When it comes to the order of succession, Baby Sussex comes in seventh in line to the British throne. Meaning he comes right behind Prince Harry and all three of baby boy Sussex’s cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
However, there are many things that have yet to be revealed about the baby’s private birth. For one, we didn’t get to see the typical royal family photo that’s usually taken at the steps of the hospital. Secondly, we haven’t gotten a name for the new baby either! Although we’re sure that more is to come within the next few days. For now, let’s look at all the exciting reactions of the royal family members.
Kate Middleton and Prince William Are So Excited About Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's New Baby
Even though the Fab Four is no more, we were secretly dying to find out their initial reactions close. I mean, they were all super close at one point, so who’s going to be more happy for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex? And, as expected, Prince William and Kate Middleton couldn’t be happier to welcome the new addition to their family.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, just like many other royals, released a statement revealing that they were "delighted" about the new addition to the family. We’re used to Will and Kate being on the receiving end of royal baby well-wishing. Since they keep adding royal babies to the family, it only makes sense! Just this past year the couple and royal family welcomed baby Prince Louis, who is Will and Kate’s youngest child.
Prince Charles and Camilla Can’t Hold In Their Excitement
"We are both so pleased at the news," Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, said in a statement at the time. "It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them."
With the arrival of his fourth grandchild, we’re positive that Prince Charles is now more than happy to keep up with the new royal babies. It comes as no surprise that the prince is such a doting grandfather. Prince Charles’ love for his grandchildren has been evident in the past, even with heartwarming photos such as this one, with the Prince holding Louis and laughing, taken in honor of Charles’ 70th birthday:

Queen Elizabeth Is One Proud Great-Grandmother
And there is another proud (great) grandmother in the family too! Queen Elizabeth, as per royal tradition, has shared her excitement for the arrival of Baby Sussex as well. An official statement was released by the royal family, which revealed (unsurprisingly!) that Her Majesty is simply “delighted with the news” about the baby’s arrival. The full message was posted on the royal family’s Instagram account, reading:
Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526hrs this morning.
The baby weighs 7lbs 3oz.
The Duke of Sussex was present for the birth.
The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news.
The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage.
Her Royal Highness and the baby are both doing well.
It's typical for Queen Elizabeth to comment on a new arrival in the royal family. When Harry and Meghan first announced their pregnancy in October 2018, the royals revealed that Elizabeth was "delighted" for the couple. Similarly, the monarch shared her excitement last April when Prince Louis was born, along with other members of the royal family who were "delighted with the news." The message echoed a sentiment shared by the Queen after the arrival of Prince George in 2013 and Princess Charlotte in 2015.
This is something that’s typical for Queen Elizabeth. The royal family members don’t even try to contain their excitement about new additions to the family - and Her Majesty is no exception. In fact, the Queen had already revealed that she was “delighted” for Harry and Meghan when they first announced their pregnancy in October 2018.
The Rest of The Royal Family Is Ecstatic As Well

Other members of the royal family have shared the Queen’s statement as well, including Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Additionally, the statement also revealed that Princess Diana's siblings, Lady Jane Fellows, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and Earl Spencer, were also delighted with the baby's arrival. Meghan Markle's mother, Doria, was similarly "overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild."
Thanks to the statement, we can also see that Princess Diana’s siblings, Lady Jane Fellows, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and Earl Spencer were just as delighted about the baby’s arrival like everyone else. And of course, Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria, whom the Duchess is very close with, is similarly "overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild." When the pregnancy news was first announced last October, Doria said she was "very happy at this lovely news" and was "looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild."
Now is a time of laughter, happiness, and peace for the royal family - and Meghan and Harry (and us too, to be honest) can finally breathe easy, with their baby boy welcomed into the world with open arms. What do you guys think about the name choice? And who do you think is the most excited for the couple? Let us know in the comments below! We'd love to hear your thoughts.
