'American Idol': Fans React to Top 3 Results

On Sunday the final five “American Idol” contestants battled it out for a position in the Top 3 while fans already picked their favorites to win.

With a night of live performances, the final five contestants each had to sing three songs. One song got chosen by the in-house mentor, Bobby Bones, another from the Elton John’s renowned catalog, and lastly, a song in honor of Mother’s Day dedicated to their heroes.

After Wade Cota, Alejandro Aranda, Madison Vandenberg, Laci Kaye Booth, and Laine Hardy left their hearts on the stage, a nationwide vote determined which three contestants made it through to next week’s live finale.

Alejandro Aranda, Madison Vandenburg, and Laine Hardy made it through to the final while Wade Cota and Laci Kaye Booth got sent home.

Madison clinched her spot in the finale with “What About Us” by Pink, Elton John’s “Your Song,” and “Make You Feel My Love” by Adele.

Laine sailed through to the finals with “Something About the Way You Look Tonight” by Elton John, the classic The Beatles song, “Hey Jude” and “Can’t You See” by The Marshall Tucker Bank.

Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry,” along with “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” by Elton John and an original song by Alejandro Aranda titled “Blesser” got him the third coveted spot in the finals.

Shortly after the announcement of the Top 3 got made, netizens voiced their opinions. Alejandro got early mentions as one posted:

The talented Laine also has fans in his corner while one fan predicted that he would win the season:

One netizen encouraged fans to vote for his favorite to win, Madison Vandenburg:

However, while many congratulated the Top 3 on reaching the finals and wished them luck, others disagreed with the results as one fan thought Alejandro shouldn’t have made it through to the final:

Another fan thought Madison should have received the boot a while ago and wrote:

While opinions are rife and sure to carry on past the announcement of the winner on next Sunday, fans will have to wait and see who ultimately gets crowned this year’s winner.

But many fans may have realized that the talent show implemented a change in its current season.

While Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie all returned for the second season along with host Ryan Seacrest, Bobby Bones joined this season as the show’s first in-house mentor.

During the previous season, Bobby mentored the top 24 contestants and helped them prepare for their duet performances, but this season he pushed contestants to reach their full potential throughout the competition.

For the "American Idol" judges, the process can be hard as well, while contestants sit on the receiving end of the critique and mentoring, it can be hard for the judges to dish out in the first place, as they elaborated on their reasons during a recent interview.
