Gordon Ramsay became a well-known chef due to his transition onto television. However, the fame and fortune that followed was the last outcome he expected at the time.

Today we know Gordon Ramsay as a trailblazing celebrity chef, but he had to reinvent himself to get to this point that arrived in a way he initially thought would ruin his newfound career.

When a promising career in sports came to an abrupt halt, Ramsay had to find a new avenue to apply his competitive nature, and it led him to study further.

ONE DOOR CLOSES...

By landing a spot on the Rangers F.C. soccer team in 1985, Ramsay was well on his way to a promising career in sports, but a knee injury put a quick end to that future.

Exploring new opportunities, Ramsay enrolled at North Oxon Technical College in Banbury, England, in 1987, where he studied hotel management.

Ramsay found his way to the kitchen, and he started training under the chef Marco Pierre White the following year until 1991, in addition to working at one of London's finest restaurants, Le Gavroche.

STEPPING INTO THE SPOTLIGHT

Further sculpting from culinary masterminds such as Joël Robuchon and Guy Savoy followed until he became the head chef at London's Aubergine restaurant in 1993.

Under Ramsay's skill and leadership, the restaurant was awarded two Michelin stars, and three years later, the trailblazing chef made his television debut on the reality show "MasterChef."

THANKS, BUT NO

Gordon Ramsay Restaurants followed in 1997, a highly successful restaurant chain with 22 Michelin stars between them. But when the idea came that Ramsay would appear on television regularly, he thought it a terrible one.

During a recent appearance on "The Tonight Show," Ramsay told host Jimmy Fallon that he was convinced that television would ruin his career as a chef and said:

"I felt that someone was trying to sort of ruin my career by taking me out of that level of perfection."

However, the idea of "Kitchen Nightmares" was a hit, and so is "Hell's Kitchen," set to premiere its 19th season on Fox on Thursday night.

AN ABUNDANT LIFE

But Ramsay's career is not the only area of his life that is filled with abundance. The celebrity chef is happily married to his wife Tara, who is ready to add another child to their adorable brood of five.

Since new regulations amid the pandemic include another lockdown until February 15 in the UK, Ramsay shared with Fallon that his wife suggested they use the time to make their family bigger.

Tara and Ramsay celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary late in December 2020, and the chef had the recipe to the perfect tribute in honor of their lasting love.

Taking to social media, Ramsay posted a throwback picture taken as they shared a special moment, feeling blessed having shared the last two decades with such a "gorgeous lady."
