As reported by Variety, the film earned $78 million in its first week, three million more than the budget. The first film, released in 2008, had a budget of $52 million and earned $609 million worldwide.

The sequel promised ABBA songs galore, and it delivered with hits like Waterloo, I Have A Dream, Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen and Fernando, to name a few.

A total of 23 ABBA songs were performed in the film, as well as two additional tracks that appear only on the soundtrack. Read more on our Twitter, @amomama_usa.

The events in Here We Go Again play out five years after the first film and follow Sophie as she prepares for the grand reopening of her mother's hotel.

The film also gives insight into Donna's younger years, and how she met Sophie's 'three fathers:' Harry, Bill, and Sam, portrayed by Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård and Pierce Brosnan, respectively.

The film is bringing seventies nostalgia back, and ABBA songs are still frequently played at parties, E-News reports.

Fans can be forgiven for indulging in some of their greatest hits over the coming weeks as the film continues to rake in profits and film reviews.

The band's first hit, People Need Love, reached the 17th spot on the charts back in the early seventies when they were still known as Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Anni-Frid.

They change their name to ABBA in 1973, taken from the initials of the four members, and made their breakthrough the following year with the release of Waterloo.

Two years later, Mama Mia reached the number one spot in the UK, Australia, and Germany, while SOS made it the 10th place on the Record World Top 100.

By the early eighties, they had reach superstardom and released their compilation The Very Best of ABBA. The band dissolved in 1982.
